Titled after a passage in Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez, Fallen Pieces of the Moon featured woodcut prints by alumni Debra Salopek. Inspired by Lopez’s perceptions of Arctic icebergs, Salopek offered her own poetic interpretations of the icebergs here on our Great Lakes.
Author Masterclass: “Getting the Joke” for Middle Schoolers
Hosted in partnership with the National Writers Series, writer-in-residence Snowden Wright led a masterclass for students, teaching them to analyze all levels of storytelling, from the mechanics of narrative to the construction of sentences.

An exhibition of work by 2022 artist-in-residence Ahavani Mullen was on view at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City. In four large-scale paintings, Mullen explores the ways in which subtle, ephemeral vibrations can be given form on a canvas, using energetically-charged paint to create fields of color, light, and texture.

Music, Meditation, and Yoga
At the Old Art Building, composer-in-residence Shruthi Rajasekar led participants in moments of deep listening to assist in meditation; humming, intoning, and “singing”; discussion; and a yoga-based response set to music guided by teacher Jeanine Mamary Ball.
